From 1937 to 1990:
Enjoy the greatest vintages of the 20th century !
1937
This is a great vintage in most regions and particularly legendary in Sauternes.
1945
This is a symbolic vintage announcing the magnificent trio. This warm year was marked by a small production in Bordeaux that lead to produce wines with great aging potential thanks to their marked tannins. Mythical wines in Pomerol, Saint Emilion and Sauternes but also in Burgundy and Champagne.
1947
An extremely warm year in Bordeaux producing very ripe wines sometimes a little bit warm, and sweet wines with lots of sweetness. Pomerol and Saint Emilion are particularly well-made. A successful year for red Burgundy and exceptional in the Loire with wonderful sweet wines.
1949
Similar to the 1947 vintage. In Bordeaux, the warm climate produced sappy wines with long ageing potential especially with wonderful Médoc and Sauternes. An exceptional year for red burgundy wines and a high level in every other region.
1959
Extraordinary vintage in Bordeaux and Burgundy. 1959 is a year marked by heat that led to produce wines with low acidity. Note that there are wonderful Sauternes and great red and sweet wines from the Loire. These wines age superbly.
1961
Vintage with low yields. Great vintage in Bordeaux with very mature and concentrated red wines. Most of the other regions also produced really good wines, especially in Alsace.
1978
A very famous year in Burgundy and in the Rhone valley with long ageing wines including amazing Côte-Rôtie wines.
1982
Finally a great vintage in Bordeaux after more than 20 years of waiting! A smooth and warm vintage with round and mature wines with low acidity. These wines are now ready to drink.
1985
In the Rhone valley and Burgundy, this is a great vintage with mature and warm wines. But also the “little brother” of the 1982 vintage in Bordeaux with a solar style and ready to drink young. The Loire wines are also very well done.
1989
This is a nice year for most of the French vineyards. The red Bordeaux wines are well done with solar notes and a low acidity. Excellent vintage in Burgundy especially for the whites. The Loire, Alsace and the Rhone Valley also offer really nice wines.
1990
A really nice and successful solar year in all regions. Red Bordeaux wines are concentrated and mature with silky tannins. Sauternes are rich and smooth. If most of the Merlot in Bordeaux, the red Burgundy and Languedoc wines must be drunk now, you can still wait a few more years to taste great Medoc, Rhône and sweet wines.
